Advanced Software, developers of the UA Business Software line
of accounting and business automation software, has taken a bold step
towards redefining the conceptual thinking behind the delivery of business
software. With the release of the software authoring tool known as the UA
Business Framework, UA Certified Partners have the ability to model UA
into any custom iteration prior to the sale, prototype the complete solution
to the customer and then deliver the finished custom solution in a mere
fraction of the time normally required to perform software customizations.
In addition to managing the software coding functions, the framework
provides UA Partners with multiple publishing options including XML, HTML as
well as more traditional Microsoft Office document formats to give the
company complete control over making UA web enabled or deployable in a more
traditional server-based environment.
According to Advanced Software’s Chief Technology Officer Dean Shoultz,
“ The Application Modeling concept that we've enabled with the Business
Framework completely turns the software selection equation on its head. The
traditional model of a company having to compare the features of this
package with the features of that package is a no longer a valid concept.
Features are a function of what the vendor thought the package should have –
not the customer and may actually add complexity and cost that is just not
justified for a particular installation. Conversely, customers with complex
needs should not have to forgo the power and value of UA just to have access
to a specialized feature that may only be found in a 6 figure ERP package.
With the UA Business Framework, literally anything the customer can envision
can be incorporated into UA, or built as a separate stand-alone product.”
In addition to supporting customization on an individual level, the UA
Business Framework enables UA Partners to rapidly enter any number of
vertical markets with solutions tailored to the exact requirements of a
given industry. Other software vendors have already expressed strong
interest in forming strategic relationships to use the tool combined with
UA’s core financial package as the foundation for their industry specific
solutions.
Despite the obvious economic value of such a tool, the UA Business Framework
will be freely distributed to all UA Certified Partners. Solutions created
with the tool will be included as part of the base price of the UA Business
Software license regardless of how expansive the solution created may be.
Solutions created by the tool will remain the property of Advanced Software
although they will become part of a shared community of solutions freely
shared among Certified UA Partners. Early indications are that the community
of solutions will expand rapidly to include a large body of reusable
features and industry specific solutions.
